L. Rhoda, (detail of) Pockets of,,,, 2006, 60”h x 12"w, mixed media
Representing the human form is perhaps the most universal visual expression
the human race makes. The first identifiable marks drawn by children are of faces and people.
Likewise, making dolls and miniature representations of the body are fundamental to all cultures. In Resemblance
presents artwork that taps into the power of this phenomenon. Elmira artist Lynn
Rhoda creates doll-like works that are a means of social commentary. Likewise,
Jan Thomas, also of Elmira, uses images of Barbie, in an installation of video and photography. Painted Post artist, Ginnie
Lupi, has created an interactive wall installation with interchangeable vinyl elements that work like ‘Color Forms’.
Vanessa Decker Goodman creates collages that are dolls.
