Allen C. Smith's drawings and Doug Holtgrewe's ceramic vessels embody strong
design sensibilities. And while both artists employ minimalist compositions, their works contrast nicely. Smith's
drawings are made up of accumulated pencil marks; they are densely built up, the result of frenetic, kinetic energy.
This exhibition includes Smith's largest works to date, an eight foot diameter drawing on panel. Holtgrewe's wheel
thrown vessel forms (also the result of kinetic energy) have a weight and visual balance that demonstrate his interest,
and success, in exploring the sculptural potential of the vessel form. Finding Center is an exciting opportunity to see
these two artists' work play off of each other.
