January 1999, David Higgins, black marker and pencil,
11 x 8.5"
Since 1987 David Higgins has created one page per month
for his artist’s book. In 2000 he showed a selection of the 8.5 by 11 inch pages at 171 Cedar Arts Center. This exhibition
is a follow up, featuring selected pages from the close to 300 that the
artist has produced since 1987. Essentially a collection of small drawings, these pages capture Higgins’ eccentric humor
and personal idiosyncrasy. Higgins says, “My book is part comic book, part visual diary and part almanac. But because
it is a labor of love, it is also an utterly serious endeavor, and I think it passes muster as a legitimate art form.”
David Higgins works and lives in Corning NY. He has been an Professor of art at Corning Community College since 1991.
He has also taught at Binghamton University, State University of New York and Louisiana State University. He has exhibited
his work nationally and is represented by West End Gallery in Corning NY and The Caffery Gallery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
