Shine, Marc Rubin, oil on panel, 20”h x 15”w Turned Vase, David Tremaine, 2010, maple w/ walnut inlay, 14” h x 8”dia
This exhibition features two artists that capture beauty
and elegance in their work. 'Legato' brings together paintings by Marc Rubin and turned wood objects by David Tremaine.
Marc Rubin is a representational painter who lives and maintains a studio in Elmira. For this exhibition he is showing
exquisitely crafted still lifes that resonate with centuries-old traditions. Rubin is represented by several galleries on
the East Coast and locally by West End Gallery in Corning, NY. .
David Tremaine unlocks the intrinsic beauty of native wood species with his lathe-turned vessel forms. His creations are
made of solid pieces as opposed to glued blocks of wood. To prevent checking Tremaine must rough cut forms and allow them
to cure for approximately a year before they are finally turned into finished pieces. Some of Tremaine’s designs also
incorporate wheel thrown ceramic elements. Tremaine shows his work in the Northeast and was selected to participate in Paradise
City Art Shows in Massachusetts. Tremaine lives and has his ceramics and wood studio in Beaver Dams, NY.
This exhibition is made possible through the generous support
of Chemung Canal Trust Company, Wegmans, and New York State Council on the Arts. This event is free and open to the public.
