Cedar Art Center’s Houghton Gallery seeks
to present visual art exhibitions of unique vision and sound intellectual premise. Artists are selected for exhibitions based
on overall artistic integrity and how the subject, medium or curatorial content fits in with exhibit and program plans each
year.
Annually a Review Panel of qualified art professionals from
outside of the organization reviews submissions and makes recommendations for upcoming exhibitions. 171's Visual Arts Curator
coordinates the exhibition schedule and may select additional artists to participate in order to facilitate a well rounded
exhibition program. While artists are primarily chosen through the annual review process artists are also selected from past
submissions that have been kept on file, studio and gallery visits, referrals, artist web sites, and ongoing research. In
addition the Houghton Gallery occasionally works with guest curators.
We generally schedule exhibitions 18 - 24 months in advance.
(A note to artists who have previously shown at
171: Artists who have had solo exhibition in the past
8 years or been included a two or a three person exhibition in the 5 years will not be selected for a solo exhibition. Contact
